FEVER RAY!

It's snowing.  In October.  Thanks, Global Warming.

Anyway, I just bought Fever Ray's album and it's AWESOME!  I'm only on like the third song and I had already heard one of them before, but I can tell already that it is great.  And that they are prob gonna be up there on my list of fav bands.

The song that I'd already heard.

Their sound is bjork-y mellow-y techno-y greatness.  According to a quick iTunes search, they only have one full album out, and a buncha EPs and remixes.  I actually don't really like re-mixes, (except this one) so I won't bother with those, but a quick google search (i love the internet) told me that the singer, Karin Dreijer Andersson, also makes up half the band The Knife.  According to this video, they are pretty prog and techno-y.  Which is good.

So if Fever Ray doesn't come out with any new stuff, then The Knife could be my back up band.  Eh, that probably could have been worded better, but whatevas.  I'm cold and this was meant to be a quick blog, that didn't turn out so quick. . . and now i'm just making it longer.

HOLLA!

MY FUTURE AWAITS

Hey y'all!  Sorry, I've been really busy/lazy, emphasis on the lazy, and I haven't posted in a while.  All you loyal readers are probably so concerned! (like how i'm acting like any one reads this?) But don't worry, I'll try to post more stuff more regualrally.

So I bought a book today which actually took FOREVER because I went to the Harvard Book Store and they didn't have what I was looking for (surprise surprise).  And then I went to urban outfitters and bought these shoes!

Why yes, these are the same as these shoes warn by St. Vincent at la Route du Rock.

Actually they aren't. . . I'm pretty sure she has these, while I have these.  This is when I was really taking a detour at UO to look at these, when all along I wanted these, but they didn't have them in my size.  But anyway. . .

So after all that I went to the Harvard COOP to find my book.  I got there and asked information (the coop is like 4 floors, I'm not gonna look first) and he said that they had one copy.  We went over to look for it and after like ten minutes of going from shelf to shelf, he decided that it was misplaced or stolen, so I gave him my name and house number and he said he would get back to me if it was found.  So I'm in Harvard Yard (I live by Harvard, if you couldn't tell) and then I get the beep saying that I have a voicemail.  I check it as I continue to walk home.  It's from my dad saying the the COOP called and they found the book.  So I turned around and went back.  I got it!  I got The Sound Reinforcement Handbook.

SUCCESS IS MINE!
I'm pretty sure I want to become a sound engineer when I grow up, and this was recommended to me.  So I've only read like five pages so far, but it seems great and it's getting great reviews.  So when you go see your favorite band in about five years, look out for the awesome curly haired girl rocking the soundboard (there's probably a more technical term, but I'm not that far in the book yet!).

I KNOW I'M KINDA BEHIND ON THIS, BUT. . .

So this is a new installment on my blog where basically I talk about a band that I'm new too, but has been out there for a while and my be well known.  Think of me like you're mother, or even your grandma (GILF, maybe?).  So I'm behind on great well known bands all the time (grizzly bear, beach house, ext) so this is just me telling you that I'm catching up.  I'm a learning robot who will eventually turn against you and take over the world in order to "protect you."  But don't worry, that'll happen in the sequel.

So the band is. . .

First of all, how do you even say the name.  I keep wanting to say bon-eye-ver, but I think that the correct thing may be bone-EEE-vair.  Eh, potato potato.  Okay that really doesn't work when you write it down.
HOW I FOUND THEM: My marine bio's student teacher and I swapped mixed CDs and she put Skinny Love on her's, but I never wound up uploading it onto my computer/iPod, just jammed to it when she showed me in class.  And then St. Vincent is collaborating with them for the twilight soundtrack, so I thought that I would YouTube em to see what's what.  Therefore (igitur if you're sophisicated!) I found the song and remembered how great it is.
WHAT'S THE HYPE: With the mellow folky guitar and the rough sexy voice, who could resist?  The melancoly lyrics just allow you to to sit and um. . . reflect? . . . so i'll get better at writing reviews. . . after a while of blogging.  maybe.  :-/

so anyway, I'm gonna end this with my usual complaint about why blogger has done me wrong.  why isn't my computer's spellcheck working in this thing?  iz makin me look lyke en idiot!

TRIBUTE TO 'TRANE

Last night, I went to the 32nd annual John Coltrane Memorial Concert with my Jazz Band.  I wasn't familiar with John Coltrane going into the thing, and I'm still not familiar now, but I liked it.  Jazz iz cool, yo!

These guys know what I'm talking about!
Since the only exposure to jazz is listing to the "Smooth Jazz" radio station to fall asleep when I was a kid, this was a new experience for me.  Despite being over dressed (I was in a semi-formal dress while everyone else was in jeans.  Where's your theater etiquette, y'all?), I enjoyed it.  It was a bit long, which wasn't so nice, but otherwise it was enjoyable.  The band consisted of eight people on woodwind instruments (saxiphones, tubas, trombones, claranets, trumpets), one pianist, and three percussionists (drum set, bongos and atmosphere, and a clothing rack of wind chimes).  It was interesting ot hear everyone's solos (PALINDROME!) and how they worked off of eachother.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not sure that I would listen to it on my iPod or actually pay for tickets to see it (SCHOOL FREEBEE!), but I'll prob go again next year.  So if y'alls are lucky enough to get a chance to see some jazz, I suggest you go.  Who knows, you may love it! (should that have had a question mark? eh, oh well!)

ST. VINCENT DROPS A NEW MUSIC VIDEO

St. Vincent (aka Annie Clark) just released a new music video for her song Marrow.  After much anticipation with all of the awesome pictures that teased us about the release, I was a little disappointed when it finally came out .

It kinda had a Badlands feel being in a desert road and everything.

Badlands

 Marrow (via RedZephyrCam)

Did anyone else think that when they turned to face the people behind her during the hook they would break out into a total dance.  I think that I woulda liked that a lot more than the jiggly camera thing.  I guess I usually just like funny music videos or videos where people dance, which would probably get a little boring after a while (I ain't no music video director!).  It was definitely well shot and enjoyable to watch, but I just wish there was a little something more.  Even if this music video wasn't the most captivating, it was definitely intriguing.  Either way, St. Vincent is awesome and if you haven't bought Actor then you need to sell the loser van and buy a ticket for the cool train!  But I'm all for more St. V music videos (can anyone say The Bed or Human Racing?). So what did you think of the music video?  What did you like about it or would have preferred instead?  I feel like I'm asking questions for a writing prompt (but not like this lady!)

YOU CAN CALL ME LIL' ORPHAN ABBY

Little orphan annie (thanks to TMZ)

Me.
Okay, so that's a terrible picture but there were people around and my hair was embarrassing enough, let alone taking a picture of myself with a dog I don't even own (I STOLE IT! jk I walk it on the weekends. It's called a job, maybe you should get one rather than wasting your time reading this awesome blog). I only bring it to you to show how they are a little to similar for my liking. To explain why I have such a terrible hair cut is because I shaved it about a year ago and it looked like this.

Better, right?
Anyway, I watched When Harry Met Sally on TV last night. Pretty good, but I missed the first fifteen minutes, so I tried to find it on YouTube (my BFF). I found it, but I wound up watching videos like the ten best kissing scenes in movies, which then led me to start watching the videos fans make of their favorite couples from television shows. I watched the ones from some of my favorite shows like the Office and Fringe.

JAM 4EVA!

Just so you know, THEY AREN'T EVEN A COUPLE!

I guess that's kinda my guilty pleasure.  I always find myself laughing at the silliness of getting involved in fictional character's love life, but I always watch until the end.  I even found myself watching similar videos from shows I don't even watch!  What's your guilty pleasure and how do you feel about fan fiction?
P.S.  I never did wind up watching the first fifteen minutes of that movie.

HELLO WORLD!

Well this is my first post on my first blog (MARK IT ON YOUR CALLENDER, PEEPS!) and I don't really know what I'm doing here. I'm already a little dissapointed because I can't choose Helvetica as my font type and since I watched the documentary about the font, that's all I want to use! I choose Trebuchet instead which I think is the font for Twitter. Whateva, compromises.

So as you can probably see this blog is pretty random. I
'm guessing a blog should have somewhat of a central theme (like that crazy-cool thirteen-year-old who blogz about fashion), so I think that I've decided my theme will just be music or pop culture or whatevas. We'll see. You can't predict a baby's future and right now my blog is a growing, crapping, crying baby that will soon develop into an adult with a point of view. Or could I make my blog a kitten instead?

A TIME LINE OF MY BLOG
Right now my blog is like this cat, a little scattered and all over the place,

but soon, I'll be attacking my problems head on! So when you go to sleep at night, I hope you have sweet dreams and then remember to wake up everyday and look at my blog! Be my internet stalker!

Sorry, I had some pent up kitty GIFs that I couldn't wait to use! So I'm not really sure now much I'll be able to post on here, with school and everything (three AP classes, this semester!) but I'll probably try to a couple of times a week. And I'm having some technical difficulties because I can't get the font back to Trebuchet. The thingy says Trechbuchet but it looks like Veranda. Jeez, I hope it will be less bumpy from here on out (kitties get car sick) and I can't wait to hear from people and have peeps readin' my blog!

EDIT: Okay so the font still looks funny from here but I changed the font for the whole blog, so it's all workin out.   I just hope that this won't mess anything up!
